Standard Chartered & the environment

At Standard Chartered we take a long term view of the
consequences of our actions and are working to build
a sustainable business, the environment and climate
change, please visit:

Just as it takes commitment and teamwork to compete in the
GROE marathon relay series, we all need to work together to
make the planet a better place to be. When combined, the actions
of many individuals can make a positive impact.

As you make your personal pledges for the environment,
you might be interested to know what Standard Chartered are doing to
improve the overall impact of the marathons themselves.

  • Manufacturers of race merchandise have been approved through
Standard Chartered environmental supplier screening processes.
    We have also consulted WWF.

  • Where alternative transport cannot reasonably be found, we will
offset the emissions associated with international travel related to the races.
Carbon offset credits that are purchased will adhere to the Gold Standard —
the most widely endorsed quality standard for designing and implementing carbon
offset projects. The Gold Standard ensures that projects which provide offsets both
reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and foster sustainable development.

  • Other examples of things we are doing in some of the race markets include:
    • using hybrid vehicles for race duties
    • working closely with local governments to clean up the entire route
      immediately after the race
    • closely monitoring air pollution index and employing resources to measure
the air quality throughout the race
    • ensuring runner's bags are made from recycled materials
